Kindergarten follows the Journey’s Reading Series, which is Common Core Aligned. Throughout the year, the children move from letter sound recognition to reading and writing sentences. We incorporate both a phonetic approach as well as building a sight word vocabulary.
The children acquire several key math skills during the year. Some of these skills include counting and number recognition, decomposing numbers, naming and distinguishing between 2D and 3D shapes, non-standard measurement, and fluently adding and subtracting within 5. The children are exposed to a variety of strategies to help aid their learning and retention.
Kindergarten children learn we are all children of God and part of God’s family. They learn about God’s love, creation, and the life of Jesus.
Throughout the year the children participate in a variety of science projects, many of which implement the use of the scientific method.
